Obituary

Mary Charles Love Trawick

July 22,1937 - March 16, 2023

Mary Charles Trawick, 85, of Perdido, Alabama, passed away peacefully, early Thursday morning, March 16, at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, Alabama. The epitome of southern hospitality, she had a way of making everyone feel important, children and adults alike. She was beloved by her family, friends, neighbors, and church for her unwavering faith and dedication to the Lord. Mary Charles played the piano at Perdido Baptist Church for the last 25 years, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, helped with Bible School, sold plots and kept records for the Church Cemetery, and was a member of WMU. To know her was to love her, and to be in her presence was to feel a love and warmth that she continuously emanated.

Mary Charles was born in 1937 in Birmingham, Alabama. She has three siblings: two sisters, and one brother. She was a 1955 graduate from Woodlawn High School, and married Archie B. Trawick on December 23, 1955. They met at Lakewood Baptist Church in Birmingham, while he was studying to become a pastor at Howard College. They were devoted to each other, and their three children, as well as to service in their church and community. The couple was married for 53 years.

Mary Charles worked various medical assistant roles for several doctors' offices, a surgeon, and eventually retired from the State of Alabama Health Department, in Atmore, AL after 20+ years of service.

Mary Charles was one of the sweetest, kindest souls you could ever meet. She was intelligent, witty, cultured, well-traveled, and a great conversationalist and storyteller. She had a servant's heart, always putting others' needs ahead of her own. She had a way of "making time stand still," as anyone who's ever been in her presence can tell you. She had the remarkable ability to make those around her focus on the present and live for the moment, which is such a lovely and rare gift.

Mary Charles was preceded in death by her mother Nadine Boyd Love, father Charles Homer Love, her brother, William "Bill" Love; and by her husband, Archie Trawick of Perdido. Mary Charles is survived by sisters Margaret Love Christian (Buddy) of Birmingham, and Brenda (Roman Podwinski) Love of Mobile; her three children, Anthony 'Tony' Trawick (Kathy) of Lakeland, Florida; Dwayne 'JD' Trawick of Perdido, AL; and Tammy Trawick Ebert (Michael) of Magnolia Springs, Alabama; her eight grandchildren Ryan Anthony Trawick of Clarkston, Michigan; Alyssa Trawick (Garrett Garcia) of Lake Orion, Michigan; Stephen Trawick (Olivia) of Charlotte, NC; Justin 'Ryan' Trawick (Kelley) of Lakeland Florida; Tyler Ebert of Spanish Fort, Alabama; Brittany Shea Trawick of Lakeland, FL; Jordan Ebert (Coryn) of Fairhope, Alabama; Kaitlyn Alderman (Ryan) of Rockford, Illinois. All the Grandkids affectionately refer to her as their 'MeMe'.

Her six great grandchildren (Trent Trawick, lsabella Trawick, llliana Trawick, Elrich Trawick, Teegan Trawick, and Kash Ebert) were a special source of joy to Mary Charles. Though their interactions together on this earth were brief, she enjoyed every moment she got to spend with them.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 25th at 11:00 am at Perdido Baptist Church, in Perdido, Alabama where she served for so many years. Family visitation begins at 9:30 am and open visitation at 10:00 am. A brief graveside service will follow.
