John Howard McGhee, age 74 of Atmore, AL passed away on November 14, 2024 in Pensacola, FL.  He was born on December 30, 1949 to Ebb McGhee and Jewel Willene Partin McGhee. John was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.  During his service in the United States Army, he served in the 82nd Airborne Division and the 101st Airborne Division, where he was a paratrooper and graduated from the intensive SERE course.  He lived more intensely than anyone and was a true friend for those fortunate to call him a friend.  He was a motorcycle enthusiast, enjoyed restoring vehicles, and was an artist.

John is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jonathan Derek Perry; one daughter, Lecie Jo McGhee; and his siblings Tommy Earl McGhee, Bobby Lee McGhee, Preston "Pete" McGhee, and Christine McGhee Parker.

John is survived by his wife Linda Johnson Hons of Atmore, AL; his sons Zachary (Lauren) McGhee of Simpsonville, SC and Jacob (Allison) McGhee of Daphne, AL; their mother Sandra McGhee of Simpsonville, SC; his sisters Betty McGhee (Curtis) Peacock of Poarch, AL and Angela McGhee DeVilbiss of Perdido, AL; and one grandchild, Veronica, who is on the way.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore, AL. Interment will follow in New Home Cemetery in Poarch, AL.

Pallbearers:  Deldon Roy McGhee, Troy McGhee, Emmanuel McGhee, Perry McGhee, Bobby Joe McGhee, and Ryan McGhee.

Honorary Pallbearers:  Odell McGhee, Scott Watkins, Randy Johnson, Ricky Johnson, Tyler McGhee, and William Bailey.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Poarch Community Church in Poarch, AL.
