Hilda Lara
Hiebert
Aug 11, 1946 — Jun 25, 2024
Walnut Hill
Hilda Lara Solis Hiebert was born August 11, 1946, in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, to Gustavo and Eva Lara. She passed away at the home of her sister Karina in Angie, Louisiana, at the end of a cancer journey spanning more than four years. She reached the age of 77.
Hilda was the first in a family of seven children and spent her first years in the village of La Reforma. When Hilda was 10, her father moved the family to San Rafael to live near the Church congregation. Hilda was baptized into the Iglesia de Dios in Cristo, Menonita, Feb 28, 1962 by Minister Ben Giesbrecht, at San Rafael. As a young lady, Hilda spent about eight months in Kansas, working at Mercy Hospital and living with Leola Willard. Next, she moved with her family to the city of Saltillo, where her father had been asked to join the Gospel outreach. During the family's Saltillo years, Hilda spent time helping missionaries in various parts of Mexico. Eventually the family moved to San Antonio de las Alazanas, where Hilda attended medical classes. She opened a drug store in a room on the family yard, where she filled the role of village nurse and pharmacist.
Hilda and her sister Irma came to the United States in the 1980s, working a while in Dallas, Texas, before moving on to Leland, Mississippi, and later Brooksville. The years she spent living and working at each of these congregations were happy and fulfilling, and she made many precious friendships at both places.
Hilda married our father Melvin Hiebert on May 1, 2005, and they enjoyed ten years together, until his death in 2015. We have been greatly blessed to have her as our dear Mom and "Abuelita". We enjoyed her love, and she spoke often of how she treasured her grandchildren and "grand grands". We wish that she could have enjoyed good health for a little longer, but we grieve not for her sake. Her sweet spirit and clear testimony of faith leave us assured that she has left this life for one much better.
Hilda leaves two sons: Steve & Lynette of Walnut Hill, Florida, and Kendall & Rhonda of Arcadia, Florida; five grandchildren: Ryan & Genesee, Darren & Clara Jo, Lindsey & Zachary Baerg, Marcus, and Mia; seven great grandchildren; her siblings: Gustavo Jr, Saltillo, Mexico; Aaron, Saltillo, Mexico; Jose (Pepe) & Elizabeth (Licha) Lara, San Antonio, Texas; Irma Lara, Angie, Louisiana, Mariza Lara, Saltillo, Mexico, and Karina & Craig Graham, Angie, Louisiana; many dear nephews and nieces, and a host of very special and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, her parents, and one sister in law.
