Edgar Delano
Norris
Mar 20, 1935 — Apr 24, 2021
Atmore
Following a brief illness, Mr. Edgar Delano Norris finished his race on this earth on Saturday, April 24, 2021, surrounded by his family. A lifelong resident of Atmore, Mr. Norris was born on March 20, 1935, to Kelon and Buna Norris of Atmore. After his graduation from Escambia County High School in 1953, he worked for many years in the textile industry at Vanity Fair Mills and Samco Products, now Atmore Industries. Several years later, Edgar started a successful lawn care business with his beloved wife, Molly, that continued even after his rehabilitation following a stroke in December, 1998. He served in the Alabama National Guard for 9 years and was a member of The Gideons International organization. Edgar loved singing, visiting with family and friends, mowing his lawn, woodworking, doing word puzzle books, and watching Alabama Crimson Tide football.
Edgar's parents were 2 of the founding members of Atmore First Assembly of God Church, and from the age of 16, he was active in some type of church ministry. Following his marriage in 1957, he and his wife were partners in many areas of service and leadership. For a short while following his wife's death in 2019, Edgar continued to bless people with his singing ability. Prior to choosing to attend another church with his children and grandchildren, he was the oldest surviving descendant of charter members in the congregation of Atmore First Assembly of God.
Mr. Norris is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters and his wife of 62 years, Molly Allen Norris. He is survived by his son, Major Terry (Becky) Norris, USMC retired, Belforest, Alabama; daughter, Janet (Steve) McGill, Atmore, Alabama; grandchildren Christopher (Stephanie) Phillipy and Rebecca (Tom) Hartner, Belforest; Whitney (Jacob) Maholovich, Atmore; Jordan (Lewis) Jones, Loxley, Alabama; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Billy (Nancy) Norris, Toronto, Canada, and Reverend David (Peggy) Norris, Salisbury, North Carolina; two sisters, Edna Emmons, Century, Florida, and Martha Miller, Mobile, Alabama, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
