Obituary

Donald Ray Barlow, Sr. was born into this world on January 12, 1950, to Bessie and Walter Barlow, one of 19 siblings. He went to his Heavenly Home on October 19, 2026.

He accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 14. He attended Nokomis Baptist Church faithfully, being the first to arrive other than Pastor Dennis.

Donald lived most of his life in Nokomis, FL, also known as Walnut Hill, FL, attending Davisville and Ernest Ward schools before moving to Louisiana and Texas, working on tugboats at the age of 15. He was always a hard worker; jobs included farm work from daylight till dark, working at a furniture factory, and retiring from Walmart in Bay Minette in 2015.

He enjoyed going to church, watching westerns and wrestling on TV, and picking his blueberries to give to family and friends. He loved his dog, Jill, very much. She was his best friend.

Donald is preceded in death by 13 siblings and his parents. He is survived by brothers, Walter “Tobe” Barlow, Jr of Shepherd, TX; Frank “Dunky” Barlow of Nokomis, AL; sisters, Margaret Ann (Larson) Bryars of Perdido, AL, and Judy Rathsack of Atmore, AL, and Debbie Barlow of Nokomis, FL. He is also survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews, along with his beloved dog, Jill.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Dennis Daniel officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jason Clay, Joseph Husband, Joshua Husband, Brandon Johnson, Don Little, and Currie McMullen.
