Brenda Sue
Schneider
Nov 12, 1947 — Jan 11, 2025
Our Mother, Brenda Sue Koehn Schneider was born to Allen and Osie Schmidt Koehn on
November 12, 1947, in Newton, Kansas. The angels whisked her away in the evening hours
of January 11, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus Mississippi after a brief
illness, reaching the age of 77 years.
Mom enjoyed her childhood living on the farm and often talked about the good times she
had growing up with her siblings, cousins and friends. She received her formal education in
various country schools in Harvey County, Kansas, graduating from Halstead High School
in May of 1965.
Mom answered God's call to salvation and upon the confession of her faith, she was
baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on April 1, 1959, at Grace Mennonite
Church, Halstead, Kansas. She endeavored to be faithful to her Lord, praying often for
strength and courage in her lonely and difficult times. We believe she is resting, safe in the
arms of Jesus.
She met our Dad, Ervin H. Schneider when he came into her place of work at Millie's Café.
They married on May 28, 1965, in Halstead, Kansas, beginning their life together in
Hesston, Kansas. They moved to Walnut Hill, Florida in 1968, living on a farm until his tragic
death in a farm-related accident. She laid him to rest in 1995 on their thirtieth wedding
anniversary. Left with the responsibility of supporting her family at home she expanded her
cleaning service of homes and businesses, toiling diligently until retirement in her early
70's.
Mom had a love for flowers and plants. She kept a tidy house and was a delightful cook,
making the best cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies. We remember her often
singing in the kitchen as she went about her work. Her grandchildren were very dear to her.
Skittles and M&Ms were always in ample supply at Grandma's. Memories of her teaching
the grandchildren to bake and drive at young ages will always be cherished. Another
special memory is the many stories that she read to them, even at times over the phone.
As her health was starting to decline, it was decided she would move to Oakwood
Retirement Community in Brooksville, Mississippi. She was very excited to move into her
new room on September 30, 2024. She appreciated the opportunity to make new friends
and get reacquainted with old ones. She enjoyed going to Coffee Shop and playing
Rummikub. Little did we know that her time at Oakwood would be so short, but we trust
that God does all things well.
Left to grieve her passing are three sons, Jarrod and Casey, Perry and Stephanie, Robert
and Shanna, all of Walnut Hill, Florida; two daughters, Lisa, Walnut Hill, Florida, and Leana
and Van Nickel of Blountsville, Alabama; 13 grandchildren; an expected great
granddaughter she was so looking forward to meeting soon; her dear sister, Jan and Mike
Unruh, Greensburg, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Carolyn and Reinhard Regier, Hesston,
Kansas and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held on January 16, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Walnut Hill Mennonite Church.
Ministers Ben Koehn, Mike Koehn and Monte Unruh officiated. Burial was in the Walnut Hill
Memorial Gardens.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
