Obituary

Ms. Barbara J Castle (78) went to be with the Lord on Monday June 27th, 2022, surrounded by her beloved family. She was known by her family and close friends as "Jeannie" or "BJ". Born October 26th,1943, to Robert (Roscoe) and Lois Manning. She was a long-time resident of Chickasaw and Mobile. Barbara received her Associate degree in Nursing from Southwest State Technical College. She was an LPN nurse for over 25 years at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center and Saad's Home Health. She then received her real estate license and was a licensed realtor for nearly 10 years.

She was preceded in death by Robert and Lois Manning (parents), Ronald Franklin (brother-in-law) and two grandsons Dylan Tews and Timothy Nelson.

She is survived by her siblings: Gordon Manning, Charles (Theresa) Manning, Linda Franklin, her children: Davona (Randy) Nelson, Kimberly Gordon, Ashley (Tom) Tews, Kenneth "Greg" (Ambre) Castle, 14 Grandchildren, 4 Great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and her beloved friend Mary Brown.

She loved bowling, dancing, her dog (Bridget) and was an avid Elvis Presley fan Also, in her younger years, she loved putting the pedal to the metal with a CB handle of 'White Lightening' in her white Toyota Celica. She leaves behind a very resilient family of whom she was very proud of. She was known for her lack of patience and not holding back her opinion with a knack for telling you like it is. Everyone always knew where they stood with her; she liked you or she didn't. She wasn't afraid of anyone or anything and appreciated her privacy as she was a very private person. She had a very colorful vocabulary and she loved her liquid gold (Diet Coke). She left behind a heck of a lot of stuff to her son and daughters who have no idea what to do with it.

The family is holding a private grave side service in Atmore at McCullough Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life in Atmore, AL on July 5th, 2022.

We Love you Mom and will forever carry your memory in our hearts!!! This lyric from Elvis Presley's song "My Way" seems to sum up her loved and fun filled life: "I've loved, I've laughed and cried. I've had my falls, my share of losing and now as tears subside, I find it all so amusing to think I did all that and may I say, not in a shy way, oh, no, no not me, I did it my way".

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc is in charge of all arrangements.
